Through the concerted efforts of the City Managers of Vallejo, California, Sarah Nichols (founder of SAGE, a non-profit environmental advocacy group); Jeremy Tibbets, (owner of A Plus
Tree Service in Vallejo); and California Urban Lumber, over a 1000 board feet of lumber is now stickered and drying rather than being sent to the landfill or mulch bin.

The trees needed to be removed from the city park for safety reasons, they lived their first life in the park and will now have another life of decades to come in the form of turned creations, building material and furniture.

Hundreds of pounds of turning blocks (some of which are already spinning on lathes around town) and eight stunning slabs of
Sycamore are pictured.

Several large live edge slabs of Douglas Fir were
saved and almost two hundred board feet of Western Red Cedar which will line closets in a new home being built by JFC Construction, Inc of Martinez, CA.

All it took was a few phone calls and the determination of Sarah to save tons of beautiful hard and soft wood.
