Bill: Roger Marschner's Walnut

A word from Bill:
Seventeen years ago my friend Roger Marschner came upon a large California Black Walnut stump in Chico, CA. While sitting on said stump contemplating life’s greater meaning and probably smoking too much of the local product, Roger began to wonder how long it would take a man to dig this beautiful thing out of the ground.
Three days, seven chainsaw chains, four broken shovels and a myriad of sore muscles later, Roger was on his knees in a five foot hole with a Stihl 46 making the last cut on an eight inch root. The results of this effort produced six magnificent slabs, two of which are sitting in the California Urban Lumber shop surfaced and ready for a home. Both are around 44 inches wide and 70 inches long, one is two and a half inches thick and the other is three inches. The figure and grain are truly remarkable.
One will be on display at the WoodFair in Arcata, California on the 10th and 11th of July. Hope to see you there.
